Reflections
“We were given no signs from God; no prophets are left, and none of us know how long this will be… But God is my King from long ago; He brings salvation on the earth.” Psalm 74 v 9, 12.

The Light that Shines in the Darkness. I can’t think of a more fitting theme for our Banquet this year. Lately, I’ve been feeling as though we are surrounded by darkness. Life is devalued, abortion is celebrated as a victory for women.

Recently, a patient who sought a late-term abortion out of state told us, “The doctor made it a wonderful experience.”  Those words deeply distress me.

I’m distressed that a physician sworn to protect and heal could destroy life – and that, somehow, that experience could ever be considered “wonderful.” But I know that our fight is “not against flesh and blood…but against the cosmic powers of darkness.” Our fight is against the one who desires only to steal, kill and destroy. Like the psalmist so long ago, it feels as though the enemy has the upper hand. The darkness persists and surrounds us. It permeates our culture and it’s stealing our young.

But long ago, the same God I serve today spoke to the darkness and said, “Let there be light.” That light continues to shine today. It shined when “Danika,” a young mom being pressured to abort, courageously told the nurse after seeing her unborn child on an ultrasound, “I decided to choose for myself. I will not hurt an innocent life.”

Revelations like Danika’s are made possible because of the work of Care Net’s ministry. Her child’s life was saved because of our donors, many of whom make a sacrificial financial commitment to keep our doors open. Danika was spared the pain of abortion thanks to the nurses who dedicate their work as a form of worship, submitting the outcome of every encounter to God for His good purposes. She will thrive because of the volunteers and support staff who serve to care for the whole person – working tirelessly to help her become the woman God is calling her to be. And all of this is possible because of the prayer warriors who fight for us on their knees.

Thank you for keeping the light of life alive. You are the oxygen we need to keep burning.
