July 4th is one of my favorite holidays. Flags will be prominently hung around our home and we’ll gather with loved ones to make the most of the day—likely watching a parade, cooking out and sitting together under the stars to enjoy the magnificence of fireworks lighting up the sky.

As you join with family and friends to relax and celebrate, let’s take a few minutes to step away from our holiday festivities and reflect on the significance of the day and what it means to us all. I encourage you to truly ponder those familiar words our forefathers penned in the Declaration of Independence:

 “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

You and I as pro (abundant) life-affirming Christians must continue to work to lovingly protect and promote what our forefathers knew, and I believe, to be true: That Life is a God-given right that cannot and should not be taken away. Perhaps our founders, by leading with the word “Life” when speaking of rights, intentionally meant to emphasize the fact that you cannot have Liberty or the pursuit of Happiness, if you don’t first have life! And, as Christ-followers, the words in Genesis 1:26 remind us just how intimate our Creator of Life is: in that while He created the heavens and the earth, He reserved His very breath for mankind.

Life is sacred and a precious gift. We have cause to rejoice also in knowing that our true freedom is found in faith in Christ Jesus and in His forgiveness and cleansing of our sins, as we lay them down at the foot of His cross. Doesn’t this day mean so much more to us when seen through this lens? Just writing this sentence makes for a celebration in my heart that rivals any fireworks I’ve seen.

Because of your caring heart, there are more babies, mothers and fathers who are able to celebrate their unalienable right to life today. With gratitude for you and the many ways you’re helping to provide real options to those in unintended pregnancies…Life… eternal and physical.
