Kaya suspected she might be pregnant. She and her husband desperately longed for a child and prayed that God would bless them with a baby. But previous pregnancies had always ended in miscarriage, and Kaya feared that, once again, she wouldn’t have a chance to meet her little one.

Newly immigrated from South Africa, Kaya and her husband were trying to navigate a new country and culture. They had no medical insurance, and our health care system was very different from what they were accustomed to. Fortunately, Kaya found First Care Clinic.

During her visit, we performed an ultrasound to determine the viability of this pregnancy. Our nurse had to break the sad news that, once again, Kaya’s baby would not be born. Devastated, Kaya mourned the loss of her child.

But our nurse also had hopeful news to share: The exam revealed fibroid tumors in the uterus, a possible explanation for Kaya’s miscarriages.  Kaya had never been told why she had lost each of her children and was relieved to know of a potential explanation.

We were able to enroll Kaya in medical insurance and refer her to a Christian gynecologist and obstetrician for help.  Now Kaya had both a diagnosis and a way to access our health system. She left our clinic with renewed hope.

Just a few weeks ago, Kaya returned to our clinic to introduce someone special: her new baby girl, Faith. The doctor we’d referred Kaya to had been able to remove the fibroid tumors, which allowed her to conceive again and carry her daughter to term.

God used your generosity to answer the prayers of this beautiful family. Kaya’s daughter is a living testimony of the power of prayer and how the body of Christ can work together to meet the needs of those who are hurting.  Thank you for providing direction and hope.
